PLUSHflier-500

In a few I’ll be heading out to the PLUSH Show, the posh little urbanites show for babies and toddlers. I’ve done a good job of not buying anything for the nursery yet in anticipation for this huge giveaway/shopping event. Swing by if you’re in the area and free for the day, 10% of all ticket proceeds will benefit Generosity Water. If you can’t make it, I’ll be back with a recap of all of my favorite exhibitors/products and more. :)

Get tickets here.

My girlfriend and I were lamenting this morning about how easy it is to dress up in the fall/winter — boots quickly dress up any outfit. Now that we’re finally in some warm weather, what would be the summer equivalent? Booties were great for the spring transition but now open toes are a must. Wedges are perfect because they give you more stability than your typical heel and are easier on your arches while still giving you some height.

Here are a couple of my favorites from REVOLVEClothing.com:

From left to right:
DV by Dolce Vita Pali Wedge in Desert
Matiko Yasmin Wedge in Grey
Rebecca Minkoff Trott Cutout Wedge in Black
Sam Edelman Wess Wedge in Caramel

And a couple available right now on Gilt:

Modern Vintage Lou Woven Wedge
Modern Vintage Martina Peep-Toe Wedge

I love nude wedges because they instantly add length to your legs. The Martina wedges would be the perfect pair to wear with a short summer dress or trouser shorts.

I haven’t had bag envy like this in a long time. When you lead a humdrum life of hauling yourself to your corporate job day in, day out, you lose interest in handbags unless it’s structure can hold a moleskin, notepad and a couple of file folders. The trendy crossbody was fun until you try to pair it with a pencil skirt… the slouchy hobo was convenient until it wrinkled up your presentation deck.

So imagine my surprise as I casually stroll through CUSP when this little number catches my eye. Cute and office-friendly. Distinguished and affordable. The Marc by Marc Jacobs Kitty St. James Leather Satchel is perfectly grown up in taupe… but surprisingly more versatile in red. My rule is to never buy a bag at first sight, so I shall stalk it for a few more weeks until I slowly cave in.

Nesting

Every parent will give you the same advice — don’t buy anything for the baby! Register first, then wait until the last possible moment before you fill in and buy the essentials. Well then, what to do when my nesting instinct is in its highest gear?? I’m tired of researching cribs, crib mattresses, bedding and such without physically bringing something home to set up… and then I convinced myself that maybe this is the best time to pamper myself.

Hubby and I have been throwing around the idea of a new mattress for a while now. He’s had a million complaints about my mattress since the day he moved into my old apartment. I like my beds cushy, so I chose the loftiest, pillowtop mattress I could find. Which is fine and dandy until summer rolls around and the pillowtop starts to generate heat. On top of that, little old me did not know that you are supposed to spin a mattress every 3 months so our bed developed two huge soft spots where we slept. The spots turned into dips, which turned into holes that made our backs ache every morning.

So this Memorial Day, we got suckered into walking into a few mattress shops. (Hey, those guys spinning signs at street corners are sometimes very effective.) We tried out at least 25 different mattresses across about 4 different stores and finally came to one we absolutely loved, by Stearns & Foster. We chose a luxury firm, which was a compromise between hubby’s need for a firm bed and my attachment to a soft, cushy top. A memory foam layer at the top made it easy on my shoulder to sleep on my side (a must when you’re pregnant). It took about an hour of haggling and bargaining but we finally made it home with the promise of a brand new mattress delivered the next day. And of course when you get a new mattress, you must get new bedding!

I’ve been dying for these Barbara Barry sheets ever since the day we painted our master bedroom a glacier blue. The only problem is, I like my bed to overflow with pillows, enough to rival a cheesy Hollywood pool lounge, and holy moly shams are expensive. Buying this set at retail price when I saw it at Bloomingdale’s would have cost close to a cool grand. So I put my dream bed on hold and remembered it again this weekend after we bought our new mattress. This exact bedding set was now on sale, at a discount, at Bed Bath and Beyond! Unfortunately the site was sold out of king sizes entirely but I lucked out and was able to find the set available in Tustin. Props to hubby who had to rush me down there adding 60 miles to our evening commute, before they closed for the night.

Ooooh, I cannot wait to go to bed tonight. :)
