The Laundress

If you’re like me, you hate to do laundry. The laborious process of sorting, managing multiple loads, folding and putting away clothes is something I’ve loathed since I was 7. Well, back then I was only in charge of socks and each year I “graduated” to a new category of clothing until I was doing it all myself. So, how to make laundry enjoyable?

Instead of thinking of it as a chore, think of it as caring for your clothes. Hey, you paid $248 for that sweater dress, you should pay more attention to how you wash it! For my birthday this year my sister bought me some detergent from The Laundress. If it weren’t for the sophisticated, minimalist packaging I probably would have been annoyed. “Detergent? For a birthday gift? Really?”

So what’s the deal? What’s so special? That’s just it — the collection was created around the fact that all of your clothes are special. Jeans, swimwear, sweaters, baby clothes, wool, darks, whites — they all have a completely different fabric and dye makeup so why not treat them differently in the wash? The line is completely eco-friendly and formulated with fabric in mind as they perfected the most effective ingredients for each fabric need. I’ve been using this duo since August and I have to say this is the only review I’ll do where my only thought is “no comment”. My clothes are all exactly how they are when I bought them. No shrinkage, no bleeding, no fading. No heavy scent, no smooth film of softener. My denim blues are bluer. So, I guess that means it works. :) My only qualm is with the packaging — it’s impossible to measure out 1.5 capfuls without getting some on the bottle when you put the cap back on… gets messy!

If you have an he (high-efficiency) washing machine, then this detergent will actually save you money. The per load cost is $0.58 compared to Tide Ultra which is $1.07. I think I’ve switched for good!

Couldn’t you rinse out the cap before you put it back on?
