I’m not typically a big fan of studded anything but Alexander Wang’s Coco bag caught my eye during the A/W 2009 shows earlier this year. I will be the first to admit he didn’t come onto my radar until the GAP collaboration collection (I’m not in the habit of tracking, buying or affording runway anything) so it was one of those things I noticed that came and went.
Not surprisingly, the bag started showing up on the arm of Mary-Kate Olsen. Black, gold-studded, duh, seems to be her uniform. After seeing these images pop up all over the place the duffel almost became synonymous with the Olsen twins’ style in my mind and I couldn’t imagine any other way to wear it. And then of course fakes started popping up all over the place and that’s typically the end of any love/hate relationship I have with a bag.
…until today I came across a picture of Kristin Cavallari with the same bag, dressed down in her typical LA style. It reminded me again how gorgeous this bag is, but started getting me thinking if it truly is versatile enough for her to wear it the way she is in this picture.
What do you think? Is this bag too stylized for everyday wear? Has it been played out too early now that Kristin is photographed wearing it out in sunny LA summer clothes?

I think the bag looks awesome on Kristin. It actually ties together her slouchy look and makes her not look as sloppy as she could, but I don’t think it looks too incongruous (like a dressier bag could).

I freakin’ love it! But then again, I love studded things. This style is a basic black bag that is made different with studs. I hate using things that everyone else has and this is different.
Definitely a thumbs up.

i use this bag everyday for work (and i work at a pretty conservative office) and love it! the only bag thing, it weighs like 10 pounds before you put anything in it! but i still love this bad to death!

I amd bummed- it feels as though fall has already played out its fun and its not even October. CT- I know you and I are still in summer- but everywhere else its fall. Especially with this bag. I havent seen that much, but if guys think its over, that sucks.

I must agree…I’m not big on studs…they remind me of high school…but that bag is to die for. And it looks super cute on Mary Kate!

Personally, as cute as studs are, it’s more of a fleeting thought, won’t stay classic. Just go with the YSL satchel, gives you the same feel. Dress up and dress down.

How big is it? In person, I mean… looking at the dimensions it seems really large. But it doesnt look that way on MK.

Just wanted to second what was already said, THIS BAG WEIGHS A TON! If you carry a lot of stuff forget it. Empty it’s heavy, but with everyday essentials it’s a back breaker. Looks great though…

I love studs but I don’t like how they are placed at the bottom. That somehow gives the bag an “insect” feel that I don’t like. Meh, I’m weird that way.

Personally, I love it and I think it’s a nice, subtle way to tie in the goth/stud trend, which would liven up a boring, conservative work outfit. I also think it does the opposite with Kristin’s look and makes her casual outfit a little more polished.

I am not a big stud person either but this bag looks out of the box and that’s what is making it. It is just different and therefore cool! May be a little eclectic. I can imagine the weight factor though, not for me, I carry a lot every day…

I don’t think anyone should be deterred by ( of all people) Kristin Cavallari. Does it look stupid with her outfit? Yes. Is it an amazing bag? Yes. Just wear it with the right clothes. Like a slouchy heavy knit sweater and leggings.
