We don’t use QR Codes here in the U.S. but they do in Japan, the land of all things cute. The QR Code is a 2-dimensional bar code that can be encoded with addresses or URL’s. In Japan, cell phones can read QR Codes with its camera and automatically launch the correct URL in the browser. For the Marc Jacobs mobile site in Japan, Marc Jacobs created this hand drawn QR Code.
Unfortunately, they are of no use for us here in the U.S. but I loved the design so much I took the image and created an iPhone background out of it. I also did one of the Louis Vuitton version that Takashi Murakami did a few months ago. Follow the instructions below to use on your iPhone!
- Click on the image above you’d like to save. (Will launch a full-sized image in a new window)
- Right-click and save as to your desktop.
- Sync the image through your iPhone backup on iTunes, or for a quicker way, e-mail the image to yourself and open the image on your iPhone to save as wallpaper.

Kristy – Get your QR Codes or MS tags at vizitag.com where you can also link your tag to a range of content you define and manage – so you can change what the tag displays on the users mobile whenever you want to!

They are of use in the States! The iPhone has a QR code application… not sure if any other phones do though.

They way they work is, you take a picture of it with your phone… Then it automatically either; takes you to a certain website or adds someone to your contact list

That QR-Code doesn’t seem to work…
I’m in Australia and I use QR Codes quite a bit now. They can hold a nice little bit of information =^.^= (Plus they look fancy on the back of your business cards lol)
If you have an iPhone, you can get a qr reader from the app store. There are quite a few of them. I use QuickMark personally, but if you have a jailbroken iPhone and don’t want to buy a proper app (They only cost around $2) then you can try iMatrix or something.
In anycase, QR Codes should be used more. They are surprisingly efficient.

Seems to not just be the iPhione – the Nokia E71 has a QR reader too.
