T-4 Days: Bali!

Ah, Monday. Any other Monday I would be cranky and knee-deep in work but this Monday is different. It’s the last Monday I have to endure before my vacation to Bali!

Because I only have two weeks of vacation for the year, I like to save up my days to take an extra long trip. Two years ago I visited my sister in Tokyo, last year I visited my family in Indiana and this time I’m dragging my boyfriend halfway across the world for a romantic and hopefully relaxing getaway.

I’ve only been to Bali once when I was 5 but I have a lot of friends and family who go very often. I did pretty minimal research for this trip and am going to rely on recommendations for hotel, tour guides and food. The only thing I need to worry about is packing some beach clothes and fitting into them!

So, what to bring? Packing for this trip should be very easy and light:

  • Bikinis!
  • Maxi dresses — I’ll get one more use out of them before winter. ~.~
  • Flip-flops for lounging around the hotel and exploring the city.
  • Sneakers for hiking and mini tours.
  • Mosquito/bug repellent.
  • Toilet paper. I don’t care how touristy Bali is, I’m bringing my own roll of Charmin, just in case.

So if you don’t hear from me after this Friday, you know where I am. I will be enjoying Bali a la Anthony Bourdain, snapping food pics along the way. ;)

    Hi CT,

I m happy to know that u r visiting my home island. I m from Bali! Too bad, i only fly there in 4 weeks time. I don’t think u need to bring TP, instead bring some good quality pocket tissue & rinse free hand sanitiser/wet wipes, that’s more important. Even more important is be relax & enjoy the difference between ur “home” and “ours”be it culture, weather, etc. Hope u have a great & relaxing holiday, The sun & smile awaits u :))

  4. Now THAT sounds great! Sun and sand, I like. Enjoy your vacation:)

Some recommendations, not that you asked for them but I feel the incredible urge to share :), there are lotsa cool local boutiques along Seminyak which offer pretty, beachy summery dresses. La Sal in Seminyak has great, reasonably priced Spanish food. The deep-fried battered sardines are to die for. Everyone goes to Ibu Oka in Ubud to have Bali’s famous babi guleng (slow roasted pork marinated in a Balinese spice rub), Mozaic in Ubud is also great for a romantic French-Balinese meal, but be sure to make a reservation in advance. Finally, Naughty Nuri’s in Ubud is a great, rustic chill out spot for no-fuss grilled meats, and possibly the best martinis (shaken table side) and potent margaritas in Bali.
